My Story
Benjamin (Benjie to friends) was one of my first pets; he was a little ginger coloured hamster and he was so cute I was totally in love with his whiskered little nose and puffy cheeks!
He was spoilt, as hamsters go, with a super-duper modular home that looked somewhat like a space station; with tunnels and big rooms and small rooms and domes and plenty of hamster fun to be had.
He like to cuddle (sometimes), but usually tried to escape once released from his 'space station' home. One of his favourite hiding places was inside the back of the settee - he'd managed to find a tiny flap of material large enough to climb through and while we spent several frantic hours looking for him, he spent several thrilling hours eating the stuffing and chewing the springs in our three piece suite!
It's been about twenty years since I had Benjie, and I wouldn't choose to own a hamster now, but for an eight year old animal lover, he was one of the best gifts I'd ever had!
